Veterinary ultrasound examinations for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in Trieste

Veterinary ultrasound examinations for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in Trieste

Ultrasonography or ultrasonography is a non-invasive ultrasound-based imaging test.

Abdominal ultrasound, thyroid ultrasound, muscle-tendon ultrasound and thoracic ultrasound are performed at the Tergeste Veterinary Clinic in Trieste. We carry out ultrasound diagnosis of pregnancy and ultrasound monitoring during pregnancy itself. Thanks to the instrumentation and specialist skills in this field, we are also able to carry out minimally invasive ultrasound-assisted percutaneous interventional procedures for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes.

Diagnostic tests

In the Tergeste Veterinary Clinic the following diagnostic and ultrasound examinations are carried out: • ultrasound-assisted samples for needle insertion in order to perform cytopathological examinations; • search for foreign bodies (for example subcutaneous and/or visceral ears of corn). All ultrasound examinations are reported and a copy of the report in pdf format is issued. Below are some useful indications for preparing for the ultrasound examination.

Preparation for ultrasound scans

Diagnostic ultrasound is a non-invasive and harmless instrumental examination for the patient. In most cases, to optimize the quality of the examination it is necessary to clip the patient in the areas of interest (for abdominal ultrasound, the entire abdomen is clipped). In all abdominal ultrasound examinations, in order to have a good quality examination, it is essential that the animal has fasted for at least 12 hours and does not urinate in the two hours immediately preceding. In the case of very restless or aggressive patients, the possibility of accessing the examination after sedation can be evaluated

Diagnostic visits

Ultrasound exams cannot be booked without first having carried out a clinical visit that highlights the actual need. If the visit was carried out at another facility, it is possible to access the ultrasound service on reference by having the examination booked by the attending veterinarian.
