Dental treatments for dogs, cats and rabbits in Trieste

Dental treatments for dogs, cats and rabbits in Trieste

At the Tergeste Veterinary Clinic in Trieste, numerous dental treatments are carried out for your animal friends, in particular scaling.

The teeth of our animals must always be kept healthy to avoid consequences of various entities, from the simple formation of tartar to the onset of endocarditis; according to a study by the WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association), in fact, dogs with dental pathologies have a greater chance of incurring serious heart disease, since the bacterial strains are of the same type.

In addition, the clinic collaborates with two expert veterinarians in the care of the rabbit’s mouth, which requires delicate operations under anesthesia.

Treatments for periodontopathy

The various dental treatments carried out at the Tergeste Veterinary Clinic in Trieste are aimed in particular at the treatment of periodontopathy, a chronic inflammation caused by the plaque that accumulates on the crowns of the teeth of dogs and cats.

The plaque initially covers the outer surface of the tooth (supragingival) but later penetrates under the gum (subgingival) creating an inflammatory reaction with red and sometimes bleeding gums and bad mouth odor. A periodontal pocket is therefore formed, a space between the tooth and the gum in which the plaque tends to mineralize.

The pain deriving from the disease should not be underestimated: some subjects before stopping eating become elusive if the owner wants to stroke them on the muzzle, they find it difficult to take food, or to eat and can therefore also show signs of weight loss, dehydration and apathy .

Dental tartar removal

At the Tergeste Veterinary Clinic in Trieste, dental treatments such as scaling must be done strictly under general anesthesia, in order to obtain the best control of the teeth, possibly also through a radiological investigation that can identify any benign tumors (epulides). In the meantime, thorough ablation of the gingival pockets is carried out.
